The steamship BADGER, built in 1953, today transports passengers, automobiles and freight cars from Manitowoc, Wis., to Ludington, Mich.
She is the last remaining coal-fired passenger ship running in the United States, according to PowerShips magazine. Under a government order,
the BADGER has upgraded its power system and ended the practice of dumping coal ash into Lake Michigan.
