On Sept. 27, 1883, the schooner MELITTA of Manitowoc, Wis., with a crew of three men attempted to make the harbor at Manistee, Mich,
but missed the entrance and became stranded. Suffering damage, she was towed into the harbor. Here the schooner is shown stranded on a beach near Sheboygan, Wis., in 1909.
