At the helm of the S/V DENIS SULLIVAN, crossing Lac Saint-Louis above Montreal, Quebec, downbound on the St. Lawrence River, October 2008.   

The DENIS SULLIVAN was Milwaukee’s own three-masted schooner built at our lakefront and launched in 2000.  She was sold by Discovery World in 2022 to the World Ocean School and is docked in Boston, Massachusetts.

Chris Winters is a Trustee and Vice President of the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society, a well-known author and has been a photojournalist for over 25 years.  He and his cameras have enjoyed a privileged glimpse into the lives of merchant mariners aboard some of the Great Lakes best-known and best-loved vessels.
