The ARTHUR M. ANDERSON was built in 1952 at Lorain, Ohio, by the American Ship Building Co. for the Pittsburgh Steamship Co. a division of US Steel Corp.  She measured 629.4 feet in length, 70.2 feet in beam and 31.3 in depth. Her namesake Arthur Marvin Anderson was the director of US Steel and vice chairman of J. P. Morgan & Co. at the time.  She is still sailing today for USS Steel Great Lakes Fleet.
