Long Ships Passing – Midnight Delivery

The ARTHUR M. ANDERSON receives a midnight delivery from the supply boat OJIBWAY below the Soo Locks, downbound with 25,000 tons of taconite pellets for Conneaut, Ohio, January 2015.

The ARTHUR M. ANDERSON was built in 1952 at Lorain, Ohio, by the American Ship Building Co. for the Pittsburgh Steamship Co. a division of US Steel Corp.  She measured 629.4 feet in length, 70.2 feet in beam and 31.3 in depth. Her namesake Arthur Marvin Anderson was the director of US Steel and vice chairman of J. P. Morgan & Co. at the time.  She is still sailing today for USS Steel Great Lakes Fleet.

The OJIBWAY is a steel supply boat that was built in 1946 at Ashtabula, Ohio, for the Pittsburgh Steamship Co. and measures 60 in length, 22.1 feet in beam and 7.2 feet in depth.  She sails today for Soo Marine Supply.
