Pass the salt please…..for my soybeans…….busy morning at Port of Milwaukee

June 15, 2025

Our Milwaukee area correspondent, Bruce Nason, captured these photos Friday morning at the Port of Milwaukee.  The MV MARK W. BARKER was unloading salt while the MV REGGEBORG, homeport of Dilfzijl, Netherlands, was at the new bulk agriculture export dock.   Dilfzijl is a seaport on the boarder of the Netherlands and Germany on the Ems estuary and is Netherlands fifth largest port.

The MARK W. BARKER was built in 2022 for Interlake Steamship Co. at Fincantieri’s Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.  She was the first Great Lakes bulk carrier to be built on the Great Lakes in more than 35 years and the first new build for Interlake since 1981.  She was named for Interlake’s President and second-generation leader of the family-owned and operated Interlake Steamship fleet.
