The Abandoned Piers of Lake Michigan III

September 19, 2025

By James Heinz

This is the final of this series about the abandoned piers at the bottom of Lake Michigan.  The two previous stories were about piers built by American settlers north of Rawley Point that were later destroyed by winter storms.  This story shows the remains of a pier built to export crushed stone from a quarry north of Port Washington that is now part of Harrington Beach State Park from 1901 to 1925 when the quarry flooded and was abandoned.
