Tom Wenstadt, our Door County correspondent, reports that the MUNTGRACHT arrived at Rock Island Passage early Sunday afternoon, May 18th. The MUNTGRACHT entered the Bay of Green Bay, went around Chambers Island, arriving at the mouth of Sturgeon Bay mid-afternoon. The MUNTGRACHT continued up Sturgeon Bay to the Fincantieri Bay Ship building south dock, then pivoted with assistance from two Great Lakes tugs and docked.
The MUNTGRACHT was built by Zhejing Ouhuo Shipbuilding in Zhoushan, China in 2012. The vessel is a General Cargo Ship, operating under the flag of the Netherlands by SPLIETHOFF’S BEVRACHTKINGSKANTOOR – AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANNDS and is thought to be delivering specialty woods to build the SOV (Surface Operations Vessel) DISCOVERY, currently under construction in the FBS graving dock.
The MUNTGRACHT departed out Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay for Cathu Queensland, Australia.

Tom Wenstadt, who lives in Sturgeon Bay, is a retired marine engineer, having worked in the Great Lakes area for thirty-seven years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University and is the author of Freighters of Manitowoc. He is a member of the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society and the Door County Maritime Museum & Lighthouse Preservation Society. He is a volunteer archival assistant and docent for the JOHN PURVES.
