The PRESQUE ISLE in Duluth for Repairs

June 14, 2025

Elmer Engman, our Duluth correspondent, reports that the PRESQUE ISLE was at the Duluth Port Terminal dock on June 11th for some bow thruster issues.

The integrated tug barge unit PRESQUE ISLE was built in 1973.  The barge was built in two sections – the bow by DeFoe Shipbuilding in Bay City and the cargo section by Erie Marine in Erie.  The tug was built in New Orleans by Halter Marine.  They measure 1000 feet in length and 104’7” in beam and sail as part of the Great Lakes Fleet of the Keystone Shipping Co.
