Elmer Engman, our Duluth correspondent, reports that on July 19th he found a rare visitor tied up at the Midwest Energy Terminal dock in Superior, Wisconsin. The terminal ceased operations on June 30th. 

The STEWART J. CORT is slightly bow down with maintenance being done on the starboard propeller shaft seal. There is an oil boom and the shipyard work boat is alongside. 

The CORT was built in 1972 and is 1000 feet long with a 105 foot beam.

Across the harbor, the JAMES R. BARKER is loading a cargo of ore at the CN ore docks.

The BARKER was built in 1976 and is 1004 feet long with a beam of 105 feet.

Elmer Engman is a long time resident of the Duluth area. He started scuba diving in 1968, because of an interest in maritime history, and wrote the first dive guide for the area called, Shipwreck Guide to the Western Half of Lake Superior. He is a past board member of the SS Meteor Maritime Museum and the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association. He is also the founder of the Maritime history program called “Gales of November”. This program is usually held on the second weekend in November.
